Jodi Thiessen MAAPi MACBS MISST

In my practice I seek to help you achieve healthy relationships as a foundation for good mental health. I am determined to help people with mental health difficulties to understand their symptoms and then get on with the things they want to do, to enjoy a more meaningful life. This starts with the therapist/client relationship, which for me is grounded in compassion and understanding, and is built on trust, confidentiality, and openness. Each of these aspects is vital as we work together to address your concerns.

I use the most up to-date methods and tools to help you identify the skills, strengths, and values that will point you towards who you want to be. Depending on your particular needs, with your consent, we may also use psychometric assessment, observation, and reports from family, close friends or teachers, to measure progress towards your goals.

Many people have suffered trauma in their lives such as loss, abuse, isolation, and severe stress and anxiety, we work through this together with gentle compassion.

There is no one path to achieve good mental health so choosing the best therapy is a collaborative process. So, wherever you are from, whatever your age, gender or orientation… let’s find a space of trust and learning together.

I offer therapy for a broad range of issues including:

  • Mood issues, depression, bipolar disorder

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, fears or phobias

  • Low self-esteem or self-confidence

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Trauma

  • Work-related stress or performance

  • Perfectionism

  • Grief and loss

  • Time management, planning and study

  • Issues associated with ADHD and Autism

background

I have completed a Masters of Clinical Psychology and undertaken training in Schema Therapy and am consistently looking for new opportunities for further learning to improve my skills and outcomes for clients.

I have also worked for many years as a researcher and project manager for the United Nations in humanitarian public health projects internationally. This cross-cultural work has provided me with important learning and perspectives on how things beyond our control, such as our culture, family, belief systems, and socioeconomic status can affect our thoughts and feelings.

When I’m not working, I love lounging around, chatting with friends over a cup of tea, or spending time with my family. I really value community and volunteering is very important to me. And whenever possible I love travelling to wildly exciting places (which is almost anywhere!). And, of course, I enjoy a good laugh.
