Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy helps change long-standing behaviour patterns by shifting entrenched unhelpful beliefs and coping styles. In Schema Therapy we work with you to identify and explore the origins of your schemas.

Schemas are broad, enduring beliefs that we have about ourselves and other people. Negative schemas develop during childhood and adolescence and can colour the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us. They can block us from experiencing healthy relationships and often lead to symptoms of mental illness and a general sense of dissatisfaction with life.

After identifying your schemas, the emphasis of therapy is on working towards healing the schema using a number of different techniques including mindfulness, thought challenging, imagery, chair-work, role-playing, exposure and general coping skills training.

Psychologists at Bridge Street Psychology have training and experience using Schema Therapy for a variety of mental health and wellbeing issues. To find out which our psychologists would be the best match for you call our friendly team on 9876 1800 or email reception@bridgestreetpsych.com.au
